Art is not a thing that one does, it is the way that one lives. It exists in everything, and has infinite interpretations. The painter. The sculptor. The actor. The baker. The teacher. The doctor. The parent. All artists. Because art, in its purest iteration, is inherent, and present in all of us. Tapping into that artistic vein however, can be as mysterious as art creation itself. For some it is by necessity; for others it is conjured by experience. D.E.L. came to find art through a combination of both.
Presented with the devastating destruction of a home due to a wildfire, D.E.L. channeled the hopeless feelings of loss into an impetus for creation. This experience conjured up the inspiration for many of D.E.L.’s award-winning works, using the healing power of art to find a semblance of peace.
Focusing on a “microdot” treatment, D.E.L. tethers this approach to light-reflection and light-refraction of atoms and molecules, which make up the entirety of the world as we know it. For example, a TV screen is comprised of millions of microscopic dots of color that come together to form an image. This is the same for everything visual that we experience in life. And, while it may seem somewhat elementary, this concept leans into a principle of many forward-thinking philosophers and physicists, which is that our perception of existence is a shared illusion. An understanding of this could, and should, be the case for mass connection and cooperation among all inhabitants of this immaculate planet. Because, as the future shifts rapidly into uncharted territory, working together with a cohesive understanding of our existential fragility is key to our sustainability.
